The San Diego County Archaeological Society is celebrating California Archaeology Month with a fun, educational, and free event at the historic Los Penasquitos Adobe Ranch House on Saturday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Learn about archaeology and increase your awareness about the importance of our prehistoric and historic resources. Besides booths and displays, guest speakers, tours, food, and craft-making activities, SDCAS personnel provide a mock excavation experience for kids to learn the way archaeologists excavate. These young participants also get to learn how to properly record the "artifacts" they recover. Bring a lunch to enjoy in the shade; snacks and beverages will be for sale. Trail enthusiasts from all over San Diego County will join together to celebrate National Trails Day. National Trails Day brings awareness to trails, along with their many pleasures and health benefits. The County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation will host its annual event here at the historic Los Penasquitos Adobe Ranch House on Saturday, June 05, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free to the public and will include activities such as nature walks, interpretive hikes, orienteering, trail building demonstrations, vendor booths, trail rides, livestock, entertainment, children's activities, and historical docents in period attire.
